As I watched and wandered through the very well organized block, with bilingual signs identifying furniture,
kitchen items, building materials, and clothing, I was touched by the simplicity of give
and take. One at a time, trucks and cars unloaded
tables and chairs, bikes and sinks, stuffed animals, books, clothes, coolers and lamps onto the street. People mingled in the street,
sorted through the offerings and selected what they wanted for themselves.
Super-friendly volunteers with bright orange
vests helped unload vehicles, kept order and still managed to help me carry something heavy to my car. Another offered to drive a couch or a bookcase to Heartful
Art's new gallery at the gas station two blocks away. Sometimes it's easier than other times to feel the macrocosm and microcosm as
One. For me, today in Point
Reyes Station at Recycle Circus was one of those times. I could easily see all people on Earth making this care-free exchange with each other.
On a global scale, I visualize people letting go of what is no longer useful, people giving of our excess to one another, people
filling their needs and embracing found treasure, people letting each other win, people winning, giving, taking, receiving, helping.
Thoreau urged us to "simplify, simplify." I will carry the simplicity of this vision with me forever. What a blessed event, Recycle Circus.
Bravo to Madeline and others of Waste Free Now. Bravo to every one of the volunteers. Bravo to the people of Point Reyes Station.
Thank you. Thank you. Thank you.
